TenPoint Crossbow Technologies was started as Hunter manufacturing in 1994 by Rick Bednar. Rick had helped start Horton Crossbow Manufacturing in 1985 and grew the company to a multi-million dollar enterprise. In the early 1990’s he left Horton after negotiating a buyout.
On January 4, 1994, Rick along with a small group of investors formed Hunter manufacturing company which today is known as TenPoint Crossbow Technologies. From 1995 to 2000 Rick produced double-digit growth for the company. In 2000, the company name was changed as part of a settlement with Horton.
Starting in 2002 the crossbow industry began rapidly growing due to many states relaxing hunting laws to allow the use of crossbows during archery season. TenPoint was able to navigate this growth better than most of its competition.
On July 8, 2013, Rick Bednar reported that he had purchased selected Horton Archery Company assets such as machinery and equipment, trademarks, patents, and licenses from Horton’s secured creditor. Horton had officially shut down operations in April 2013. Rick is now attempting to resurrect the brand that he brought to the United States back in 1985.
